#FABWMN – DANI DIPIRRO, THE FOUNDER OF POSITIVELY PRESENT

dani-is2Becoming, being and staying positive in life can be challenging sometimes, even if you have an optimistic character. But with the right support and focus it can be easier than you’d think. Every year around December I start looking for the right diary for the upcoming year, that will help me and guide through the days ahead, while inspiring and supporting me.

When I encountered the “Everyday matters” diary written and designed by the Washington based Dani Dipirro and published by Watkins Publishing, it instantly resonated with my heart, and I just cannot wait to start jotting down my appointments and thoughts into it. Apart from the basic calendar role one expects from a yearly planner, it also sets your focus on a particular topic each month. January is for example about LOVE, while February guides you towards POSITIVITY. Each and every page has an inspirational quote, a little exercise to keep you on track with self-development, and then a space for reflection before you start a new month.

What do you enjoy the most in being creative?

What I most enjoy about being creative is taking an abstract idea in my head — either words or illustrations — and bringing them to life in a way that people can relate to. There’s nothing better than receiving an email or comment from someone saying, “Wow! I could really relate to that!”
What made you to change your career and to focus on positive personal development?

I always wanted to focus on writing so the job I was in — marketing — wasn’t my long-term goal. I started Positively Present as a hobby, but as my audience grew, and I realized how much I loved writing and creating positive personal development content, it became clear that, if I worked really hard, I could make this my full-time job.
How do you manage multitasking between blogging, branding and writing?

Managing blogging, writing, designing, and all of the marketing, social media, etc. that comes along with it is a challenge sometimes, but the way I best cope with is actually by not multitasking. When I focus on one element of my business at a time, I’m able to get much more accomplished. Also, I’m extremely organized, which helps me keep track of all the various projects I’m working on.
How would you describe yourself with 5 words?

Creative. Independent. Curious. Intelligent. Optimistic.

What is the best part of being a woman?

It’s difficult to choose just one thing since I’m very happy to be a woman, but I’d have to say one of the best things is the ability to cross gender lines more easily. Women can be both strong and sensitive, for example. Of course, men can be the same, but often words like “sensitive” or “emotional” are seen as emasculating. (I studied gender in graduate school so I could talk about this topic forever!)

If your life would be filmed, who would play your role?

Most likely Anne Hathaway, since a lot of people have told me I look like her. 😉  Plus, I think she’s a very talented actress and would probably do a great job playing the complex role of me.
